Away from the hustle and bustle of any city, this delightful country pub re-opened in July 2015 after a major refurbishment by the new owners Alison Ward-Baptiste and Chef Alex Venables, a previous Michelin star winner. With the recent addition of luxurious guests rooms, it now styles itself as "a a pub with rooms - all you need for a quiet night or a rural weekend away from it all. The George, hidden away in the Wiltshire Countryside, is the perfect base for exploring the surrounding Cotswold's, feasting on Classic British pub grub with a twist, having a good chinwag with the friendly bar staff and sloping off to bed while gazing out a the rolling fields and country lanes
Nestled in the hamlet of Woolley, we are just down the road from historic Bradford on Avon, where you can enjoy a pleasant stroll along the Kennet and Avon canal, or stop for a coffee while exploring the antique shops.
You will be greeted like royalty by the incredibly jolly bar staff. Check in and reception is part of the well stocked bar and a cosy lounge with its open log fires.
At The George - just awarded "Best Pub in Bradford on Avon", we support British farmers and artisan producers and our menus reflect this. Our award winning kitchen uses the finest ingredients to create dishes that celebrate traditional British cooking with a contemporary twist.
Oh, and did we mention the two self-contained apartments above? Ideal for anyone wanting to explore Bath and the surrounding countryside, including historic Bradford on Avon, with its Tithe Barn, weavers cottages, C13 church, and antique shops.

For our younger customers, there are a range of dainty dishes available on our children's menu.
Special Events & Gourmet Evenings
We hold regular gourmet evenings and special menu dinners, which have proved to be very popular with customers new and old.
On Saturday 16th November The George will be converted into a Christmas Wonderland of artisan makers displaying their lovely crafts and gifts. We will also have many local artists with local paintings for sale, Christmas cards and stationery, Fashion and handbags, Hand made Jewelry, fabulous locally made candles and room scents, Glassware, Antique silver gifts, our home made chutneys, wines and sherry gifts too. Over 20 stalls.
We are open from 10am to 2pm and it is free entry.
We will also be serving mince pies and mulled wine, and lunch will be available from 12, the fires will be roaring and the Festive tunes playing to get us all in the mood

Duck leg slowly braised with prunes and Armagnac, on duck rillette and Duchess potatoes.
New Seasons Rhubarb and ginger twice baked souffle, with rhubarb compote.
